Speakers Bureau

As an advocacy organization, one of the most important things SURJ can do is advance the dialogue for change by sharing our message with groups across the state.  We are advocating for reform by carefully examining the issues, proposing alternatives, and informing our members and the public on the need for reform.  We are convinced that with study and a healthy dialogue, knowledge will replace fear, and we will be able to improve the lives of countless Delawareans.

Purpose of the Speakers Bureau:
   - Stimulate audience members to think about the issues and the alternatives being advocated by SURJ
   - Build recognition for SURJ as a responsible leadership organization
   - Enlist new members

The Audience:
We welcome speaking opportunities from a wide range of Delaware organizations, including:
   - Social organizations
   - Service organizations
   - Faith community groups
   - Other citizen groups interested in the well being of our State

Members of the Speakers Bureau will be sent a Speakers Bureau notebook containing everything necessary for a successful presentation, including some general instructions, a prepared speech, overhead transparencies, a list of frequently asked question, brochures and new member cards.

The speech itself has been drafted to reflect our mission, goals and values.  It also presents SURJ's 2003 Agenda and informs listeners about how they can become members.  The content has been approved by the SURJ Board of Directors, our policy-making body.  You will need to consider adjustments to fit your speaking style, the time available, and the particular interest of you audience.  The speech is intended to run about fifteen minutes.
